“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone….For to us a child is born, to us a son is given;and the government shall be upon his shoulder and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:2, 6
As 2014 draws to a close, we find ourselves grateful for the truths found in these verses. There is a great need for light and peace in our world and in our individual lives today. We are grateful for Jesus, the one who is that light and peace to all mankind.
This has been a year of firsts in the Meritt household. We had our first broken bones, sent our firstborn to college, and have looked for a new church for the first time in about twenty years. It has been a year of laughter and tears, but in the midst of all, we find our hope in the Lord.
Justin graduated from high school in May and has just finished his first semester at Florida State University. He has made a smooth transition to college and seems to be enjoying it there. His intended major is Management Information Systems.
Jeremy is now a junior in high school. We are in the very early stages of the college search with him. His desire is to study engineering, but is not sure what his focus will be. He has a tough academic schedule this year and is spending a great deal of time studying.
Julie is a freshman in high school this year. She keeps very busy with both club and high school soccer. Her studies are going well also. One of her favorite classes is German. She hopes to become fluent eventually.
Jamie is in fifth grade. She competed in gymnastics for the first time this year. We were very impressed with how well she did. She is very passionate about the sport and spends a great deal of time practicing and watching youtube videos to improve her skills.
Lynn continues to balance her ministry and homeschooling responsibilities. She has thoroughly enjoyed teaching a history class at our homeschool program. This fall she led the design team for a Cru, high school New Leader’s Conference in Houston.
Dave keeps busy with all his projects as Director of Research and Development for Cru, high school. He is a great help to Lynn as we balance all the kids’ activities. In addition, he has taken thousands of pictures of soccer and gymnastics this year. It is a joy to see his talent.
We pray that you experience hope and peace this Christmas.
